// Located in the Rocky River neighborhood west of downtown Cleveland, the Erie Road Residence represents an architectural intervention in a pre-war single-family home through addition and renovation. The project entailed a comprehensive reconfiguration of the existing structure, integrating a new living/kitchen extension that aligns with contemporary living needs while respecting the area's architectural vernacular. This extension is distinguished by its cladding in natural stained cedar planks, a material choice that aims to reconcile modern aesthetic preferences with the locality's traditional character. The interior reorganization introduces a functional distribution of spaces, with the inclusion of an additional bedroom and office within the original footprint, and the family’s private quarters allocated to the second level for enhanced privacy. The newly added section hosts a modern kitchen alongside a sunken living area, designed to foster an open and engaging family environment. Externally, the project extends its living spaces into the landscape, featuring a recessed porch that overlooks a meticulously landscaped yard, leading to a newly constructed garage. This outdoor area and the garage are designed with materials and forms that harmonize with both the new and existing elements of the residence. This architectural endeavor not only revitalizes a pre-war home but also enriches its context by blending modern functionality with the aesthetic qualities inherent to its setting.
