Buildner “Meditation Cabin” Competition Entry

Studio Nobody
Summer 2020

// “Challenged with the design of a remote meditation cabin, the project looked to draw inspiration from brian dillion’s ruin lust to generate a paradoxical object, one which imbues the alluring qualities of ruins with the exact nature of digital image making. Ruins became an object of fascination throughout the design process due to their predominantly sublime and picturesque qualities. Simultaneously, the local Portuguese azulejos tiles of the region became an opportunity for experimentation when paired with contemporary digital image-making techniques. Combining these fascinations with the modern construction method of SIP’s (Structurally Insulated Panels) allows for a truly strange object to emerge. Dualities of old and new, built and decaying, clean and irresolute; allow for the object to project misleading unknowable qualities onto the surrounding landscape and simultaneously be provoked by its natural sitting.
